About the Village School
The Village School currently has approximately 200 students in grades Kindergarten through Eighth. The curriculum emphasizes the importance of balancing the growing child's emerging qualities by working not only through the intellect in terms of academics, but also by working with children through movement, music, drama, imagery, and artistic experience. Multiculturalism, respect for the natural world, and community are also present in the regular school experience.
The Village School was founded by a small group of teachers and parents. The Village School opened its doors in 2000 as one of Oregon's first charter schools under ORS.338, passed in May 1999. The school's foundation is formed around philosophies of Steiner/Waldorf education, blended with other contemporary educational and social practices.
